The Center was started in Crystal Lake under a similar name in 1972 by Dr. Michael Hurt. The Center was sold by Dr. Hurt's estate to counselor Michael Fleming in 1975. The Center was then purchased in 1982 by Ron Baer, the current owner. Ron has guided the Center from a staff of 5, to its present staff of 14.

The Center continues addressing traditional counseling for individuals, couples, and families; but has dramatically expanded its role in services to those involved with the legal system.

The Center's main operation is from a facility it owns in Crystal Lake. Having outgrown this facility, the Center is actively seeking to expand to other geographic locations.
